A high-level meeting on the culture of peace  took place on 12-13 November 2008 within the framework of the Sixty-third session of the United Nations General Assembly. The resolution for promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace was affirmed at the meeting.
In the final resolution it is stated that mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue constitute important dimensions of the dialogue among civilizations and of the culture of peace; the work of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on interreligious dialogue in the context of its efforts to promote dialogue among civilizations, cultures and peoples, is also taken into account.
The General Assembly calls for encouraging dialogue between mass media from all countries, and recommends to Member States to consider initiatives that identify areas for practical action in all sectors and levels of society for the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, tolerance, understanding and cooperation. It is also proposed to consider the possibility of proclaiming a United Nations decade for interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace.
