Scholars from 10 European countries gathered to discuss the legacy of the communist past in minority politics in contemporary Europe, especially with regard to the EU membership of former communist countries of Eastern Europe. The question of how the European political institutions are dealing with the communist era was debated. Issues that were addressed during the five panels were: ideologies of minority protection, institutional impact of communist past, contemporary social cohesion, social mobility and political activism.
